due some recent requests..ok just my dad… he suggested i put up some of my poetry…
so heres the 4-1-1 on the poetry thing. i needed another 3 credits one semester to be considered a full time student and i also need some “creative expression” course to fill a general ed. requirement…so that landed me in encr211 or in other words poetry. as you can stereotypically imagine i figured my class would be filled with deep dark souls who jump at any chance to show off how far from mainstream they function- but i was pleasantly mistaken and it became one of my favorite classes of my college career. now, lets set this straight i am in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM considering myself a good poet. i just dont mind it and think its a good way to clear your head, or express emotions and my dad has grown fond of my cute little poems so here ya go dad. this ones for you.
so since its my graduation party tomorrow i’ll put up this one. enjoy
We began as unfamiliar faces- anxious to embark on life’s path.
Doing our best to meet norms, and rise to expectations of
What we needed to be, what life demanded
We both had so much to offer- only with time
The me who started this journey transformed because
Of the- person – you taught me to be.
Times of insecurity in you only proved to be
Unhappiness with myself because everything was here,
All the tools I needed. but forced to learn to use them
There were times I hated you and
I left- nothing left for me here and felt drained-
Returned to your familiar embrace of my worn frame
Smiling faces, and twinkling eyes from my window every
Night to tuck me in safe.
Now its time for you to go left- and me to the right
With the lesson of attention to life’s little details
The hint of green after the thaw- my happiness
Blessed to start your day-everyday and
The constant feeling of coming home.
I miss it already.
I will take this place, the people, each moment
Hold them tight, hold them close
Don’t forget me and I wont
Forget, my friend, what its like
To love, to grow, to live…to belong.

you have a gift…a skill. Like all skills, though, constant practice is required. I say this because 1)I selfishly want to read more of your poems and 2) like Tiger or Kobe, practice sharpens the game.
