I was very torn on whether or not to write this post. Some of you may know, I went with D and his best friends on a bear hunting trip. I have never really been camping before, so the thought of going out into the middle of the woods looking for wild animals was overwhelming. I knew it was important to D and something he loves, so I thought I could suck it up and tag long.
My preconceived notions were totally blown out of the water. I loved it. Being “off the grid” with people you love is amazing. It’s refreshing, it’s relaxing and it’s exciting! Hunting really isn’t “my thing” but I respect D and his friends for the tradition they carry on.
It’s funny that my gut instinct was to defend my support for hunting, when in reality I shouldn’t have to. Hunting is a way of life for many people. As with ANY action there are people who can give it a bad reputation which can get blanketed over the entire group. I posted a picture on social media of D when he got the bear. I was SHOCKED at the negative, hateful and flat out disgraceful comments people left on the photo. It’s sad to me that people who are connected to me in someway would leave those messages. Regardless, I am proud of D for his accomplishment. He is proud he can provide food for us and I am proud of opening my mind to something I had been very closed minded too. It felt great to walk away feeling rejuvenated and stronger in my relationship with D and his friends as well.
There will be no graphic images in this blog post. It a stunningly beautiful place and I wanted to share my new adventure with the people who support me.
Please don’t leave any negative or rude comments on mine or anyone’s social media posts. Unfollow them, keep scrolling or don’t say anything at all. It is a form of bullying and extremely immature.
Thanks for all the support and love I do get from my friends, family and readers. You guys give people the courage to try new things, be open minded and live life in a positive way. Keep being you! My life is so much better because of you.
Love,
Rachel xo

These pictures are so gorgeous! I would love to go camping out in this part of Oregon…glad you enjoyed it! (And way to rise above all the people who chose to be negative on social media, so not cool of them!)

Rachel thank you so much for sharing more about your experience! Your pictures are just amazing. Hunting is such a tough subject. I'm an animal lover, who has a degree in zoology, who is married to a hunter and worked at a zoo. I've heard it all! I'm glad you tried something new and learned! Hunters do more for nature and wildlife than people know! I'm sorry you got such negative responses. Some people don't get it. I wish more people would try things that are outside their box! Luv ya cuz xoxo
