My trip to Mt Hood for my birthday got a little lost in the blog redesign, but I loved it so much I had to still share it. D and I are big into “birthday trips.” Rather than getting big gifts, we gift each other little getaways. I love to get out and see new places, and it’s fun to spend time together. For my birthday last year, we decided to head up to Mt Hood on a beautiful fall weekend. It was filled with foggy fall days, perfect for getting out and exploring. Since the snow hadn’t started falling, it was quiet and we rarely saw any other people. I loved the stillness of it all.
We stayed at The Resort at the Mountain. I’d stayed there once as a kid, but I’ll be honest, I was really surprised at how nice it was. The rooms were clean, big and even had a large wood burning fireplace. It’s a great choice if you are heading up to Mt Hood for your own mini adventure.
Drew and I had several stops over the weekend including Timberline for lunch, Trillium Lake and Lost Lake. All were spectacular and peaceful. The Mt Hood area is still a little sleepy and has hidden secrets to find, there are so many places to explore. Some will be filled with people, others will be your own winter wonderland.
If you get the chance, head up to Mt Hood soon. I think you will really love it.
“This mountain, the arched back of the earth risen before us, it made me feel humble, like a beggar, just lucky to be here at all, even briefly.” (Bridget Asher)
Enjoy!
Love,

Love the idea of rather than objects that you make memories together with a trip to celebrate. As always you do an incredible job capturing the majesty both big and small of nature!

I know, memories last forever! It’s nice to get away too, as I’m sure you know 🙂

Great photos!! The lake looks stunning!!! I’ve always heard good things about Resort at the Mountain. Hopefully I can make it there sometime!
Rachel says
Thank you Erin! It was, to be honest I had low expectations, but I was REALLY pleased. Timberline is also like $300-400 a night which is a lot to spend. Here is a little secret, a King room with fireplace was only $99!!! What a steal.

This post seriously looks like the coolest Instagram feed EVER! 🙂 I love the idea of birthday getaways–we’ve done similar trips for anniversaries and birthdays, too! I’ve never been to Mt. Hood, but when I do my spectacular road trip across the U.S., it’s on my list of places to visit!
