You may have seen a couple instagrams of my new obsession: acai bowls! A friend of mine took me to a tea bar in NW Portland and we ordered these bowls. I was instantly hooked. I wasn’t keen on the price tag. If I remember correctly, my bowl was about $10. I wanted to keep eating these delicious bowls, but I knew I could recreate them at home.
Now here is the other thing I love about acai bowls, it’s art. I started cruising the internet/pinterest for recipes and I found that the acai bowls are a craft. They are intended to be beautiful.
Next, I picked out some of my favorite fruits, granolas, seeds etc for my toppings. Then to make smoothie/fro yo I needed a blender + acai smoothie pack and a banana (recipe details will be below)
I got my bowl together and started decorating! It was so fun. The best part, it tastes amazing! If you make an acai bowl, tag me in your photo. I’d love to see other people’s creations as well.
Here is the recipe!
For the base:
1 acai smoothie pack (can be found at Fred Meyer, Whole Foods, New Seasons etc)
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup of your favorite frozen berry ( I did blueberries here )
1/2 cup of liquid ( I chose water, but you could use juice, coconut water)
1 T of nut butter (this is optional, I kept it out, but I saw this added to many recipes online)
Blend under smooth, should be a smoothie consistency.
Pour into a big bowl!
Get your topping out and start decorating.
Above I used: fresh strawberries, granola, dried coconut flakes, mango, chia seeds, and frozen blueberries.
Other topping ideas: kiwi, chocolate chip/cocoa nibs, raspberries, blackberries
You really can use whatever suits you!
Enjoy
Love,
Rachel xo

Okay so I am almost – just almost so – embarrassed to admit this but I have so far resisted the Acai bowl craze even so I walk or drive past it on Hawthorne all the time. It sure looks like it is worth a try or better yet just make my own with your great recipe. Thank you, Rachel ~ Bea

So beautiful! I need to get my hands on some of that bagged Acai smoothie base. Is it expensive?
