Ahh the Feast Portland dust has settled. This year was an interesting year for me. It was all about new experiences. After three years, I thought I was a self-proclaimed pro at the whole Feast Portland thing. I was wrong.
Feast Portland 2016 brought a lot of new events. Some new events to the festival and some new to just me. I really, I mean really enjoyed them. First, I went to the festival’s kick off event: Sandwich Invitational. The event features chefs who are in a competition to create the best sandwich. At the end of the event a panel of judges votes a sandwich king. It’s a great event because I think competition brings out the best in people especially chefs. As a result, all the bites were so tasty! It was at a new east-side location this year- which I heard was significantly better than the old location.
Then I attended Smoked on Saturday evening. This event is as it sounds- all about the open fire grill. Even though it was raining (another first for Feast!) it was a blast. Amazing food- amazing chefs. I was surprised at how diverse the food was. I figured it would be a lot of BBQ, but it wasn’t they even had SMOKED COOKIES! It was cool to see the innovation.
Finally, Sunday- I was off to a new hands-on event: Bon Appetit Test Kitchen. I wrote about Carla Lalli Music, the key speaker at this event last week. It was a fantastic event. Very intimate, which was a side to Feast I hadn’t seen before. You get a lot more interaction with the key speakers and guests. I really enjoyed it. I wish I worked in the Bon Appetit test kitchen. What an awesome job!
Thanks Feast Portland for a year of new experiences. I’m always honored to be a part of the whole festival. Most of All: Long Live Feast, The Pacific Northwest, and Amazing Food.
Love, Rachel xo
