This drink came about for a couple different reasons…. let me explain
1. I love a good tequila sunrise (a cocktail)
2. I love summer drinks (citrus and refreshing)
Alright, now that’s out of the way. A couple nights ago I was thinking, “I really want a tequila sunrise ” followed by, “but it’s so hot, maybe something more light/refreshing.”
I went to the kitchen to make my own special concoction: see below. ha!
A traditional tequila sunrise is: tequila, orange juice and grenadine. I started with the base, tequila and some ice.
Then, I added the Raft Smoked Tea Vanilla syrup. I like my tequila with that smoke taste. That taste usually comes from a more expensive tequila, so I thought this might be a solid alternative.
Then, I swapped orange juice for Izze clementine soda. I love anything sparkling when it comes to beverages!
I added a cherry on top in place of the grenadine. You could certainly add the grenadine too. I thought with the Izze it would be sweet enough.
This drink is perfect for sipping on a hot summer day. I loved the way it turned out!
Here are the ingredients again!
1.5 fl oz of tequila
2 Tbl spoons of Raft Smoked Tea Vanilla syrup
4 fl oz of Izze Clementine Soda (or just top off the glass)
1 cherry for the top of course!
optional: splash of grapefruit bitters
Let me know if you try this cocktail. Also take a look at the Raft Syrup website. They have a lot of really awesome syrups. They are a local Portland company (which I love), and have an amazing product. Go check it out. They have some cool recipes on the website too.
Love, Rachel xo
