As you might have noticed from reading, there are quite a few food events that happen in Portland. The food scene here is exploding with amazing talent and ideas. A couple weeks ago an email crossed my inbox that caught my attention. Wild About Game.
It took a couple minutes of reading to realize this was an event all about game meat. Hmm interesting. To be honest, not my usual choice in meats, but I was interested. I asked Drew, he agreed, and off we went!
This event is hosted by Nicky USA. They are a Portland based company specializing in butchering game meats. Their goal, “is to provide the widest variety of sustainable, free range game birds & meats. In doing so, we strive to enhance the public’s culinary education & titillate their palate with exquisite game. In attempting to offer meats of such quality, we feel that we are not only helping to care for the land that sustains us, but furthermore, helping chefs & epicureans come as close to the farm as possible.” (taken from Nicky USA website)
Wild About Game is an event they throw to showcase amazing chefs using these wonderful meats! The event was held at Timberline Lodge and included a match-up of Seattle and Portland chefs battling for domination with best dishes of game meats.
Here goes nothin!
First dish…not bad! I was loving all the new flavors, textures and food products that we were able to sample. Seriously, such amazing artisans in their craft. I was blown away by the number of amazing foods/drinks we tried!
Overall, this was an amazing event. I am SO happy to know something like this exists. I will continue to attend Wild About Game. These kinds of events bring you a little outside your comfort zone and get you to open your eyes about some really amazing practices and products.
Love, Rachel xo

Those reubens looks fantastic! This event always conflicts with a big BBQ judging event so I never go, but I was sooooo tempted this year but decided to honor my prior commitment. Maybe next year though… What were your or Drew's favorites?
