Restaurant Review: Natural Selection

Restaurant Review: Natural Selection

It’s Friday, heck yes.

I thought with the weekend in sight, I’d give you a nice little restaurant review today. If you have time, I’d recommend putting this one into your weekend plans.

I have been to Natural Selection before, it’s a quaint, charming and friendly vegetarian restaurant in NE Portland. I love the open kitchen and vintage serve ware. The atmosphere is contagious and I didn’t even notice there wasn’t any meat on the menu the first time, until after I was done. I thought, “wait…we didn’t have any meat…and I’m not mad about it!”

A couple of my co-workers follow a vegan or vegetarian diet, so when we were searching for places to try- this was an obvious choice. They do have a coursed dinner offering, which we gladly opt-ed in for. You can order dishes ala carte as well.

Aren’t the plates just stunning? I agree.

This place is a special gem in Portland, trust me you won’t miss the meat here. The flavors are complex, fresh and innovative at the same time. I love this spot for girls nights, dates etc.

Get in and try it. Happy Weekend Everyone!

I haven't been there yet, but you made it sound wonderful! I'll have to check it out. Love the details on the silverware too.

Fancy stuff! Lovely flavor combinations, looks like. I was vegetarian and vegan for 13 years so now that I eat meat I really understand the importance of protein at my meals–so if I went to a vegan place I'd have to plan to have a side of homecooked beef or pork from our cow or hog shares when I got home! #nutrientdensitygeek It is fun to eat out sometimes though!

Some of the all vegetarian options can be sorta "hippie" and I love that Natural Selection provides an elegant elevated vegetarian option that feels like more equivalent to the nice omnivore restaurants. Also, the fact they put together such good dishes that are more complex in flavor and exeuction than I could make at home helps justify dining out there!

Perfect! My sister is a vegetarian, so when she comes to town I'll be able to knock her socks off. 🙂
