In life I’ve learned people handle stress, sadness, anger very differently. I need to surround myself with people who will make me laugh. I’ve heard echoed with most of the people in my life, times are hard! Being an adult isn’t all it was cracked up to be. Work is stressful, relationships are work in and of themselves. It doesn’t end.
My cure? A Friday night out with my friends. That’s just how this night played out. We actually were trying to get into a different restaurant but the wait was insane. We ended up walking in Saucebox.
I have been here before, but I forgot how much I like it. For dinner we had the pupu platter (and not because we just wanted to say the name) and then I had the steamed crab buns. They also have an extensive drink menu. We all had a couple drinks, but I ordered the lychee martini and I loved it! (Saucebox also has a KILLER happy hour. Worth checking out)
After dinner we walked over to Pepe le Moko. This place gets a lot of hype in PDX. Do I think the cocktails were fantastic? Yes. I was shocked at the traditional list of cocktails. None the less, great night cap. I’m a whisky girl, so I ordered an Old Fashioned. (shocking)
Regardless of where we ended up, I went home from dinner feeling so much better. My heart was full again. For those couple hours my friends sheltered me from the craziness of life and picked me back up to start the fight all over again. For that I am always thankful.

Been to Saucebox. Liked the food. It was a bit loud in the first room, but better in the adjacent dining area.
Pepe le Moko <3, first time I saw a pic of the hidden bar, I was blown away of the decor and the design. Speaking of the cocktails, they make outstanding cocktails…
Glad your girlfriends could cheer you up! Also, I love Saucebox, too. I ordered their tofu stir fry dish once and it was delish!

Did you also get the brussel sprouts from Saucebox? Those are the best. I still haven't made it over to Pepe le Moko – hopefully someday soon! Agreed on good friends and fun nights out. Those are always needed to offset the stress. xoxo
