Let’s start this post off by saying, brunch or breakfast is far and away my favorite meal to eat out. I love all breakfast foods. I’m equally in love with a good scramble AND french toast. Sweet. Savory. I love it all.
What I don’t love is brunch lines. It seems I’m not the only one who loves a good flapjack in this town. So, when I heard that Verdigris was now serving brunch not only on weekends but weekdays… I wanted to check it out. I had heard of Verdigris from my friend Chloe. Her opinions on food rank highly in my book, so I had a hunch this place would be great.
Verdigris is a cute, quaint, little spot on Fremont in NE Portland. I love the huge windows, natural light, and crisp decor. It makes you feel right at home. The chef and staff were kind and hospitable. I enjoyed the insights they had on dishes, wine parings and thought behind the menu items. I highly suggest giving this little gem a try. The best part is, go on the weekdays for brunch.. no lines! I tried a little bit of everything on the menu and my recommendations are:
1. Duck Fat Fried Hash Browns Brown Butter Hollandaise
2. House Brioche Croque Madame Smithfield Ham, Gruyere, Sauce Mornay, Fried Egg, Pommes Frites
3. 60 Minute Eggs & Smithfield Ham Duck Fat Fried Hash Browns, Brown Butter Hollandaise
Verdigris menu changes with the season- so there are always new items to try, but you won’t go wrong with the ones above. Similar to Portland Dining Month, they also serve a 3-Course menu all summer. Check out their website for more information.
Droool…. I usually hate brunch because it almost always means lines, so the fact Verdigris offers weekday brunch where I can enjoy the food and not have a wait or people staring at me to vacate so they can eat is huge!

Ahh I LOVE a good brunch, but have zero patience or desire to wait in line. Love the idea of a weekday escape! I’m sold!!
